Two Kauai Landmarks to Be Renovated

Some visitors describe the island of Kauai, Hawaii, as a place where time doesn't fly as fast and where you can enjoy the island's natural beauties and amenities without feeling rushed. And while this can be true, changes are on the rise. Two Kauai community landmarks are experiencing this change right now; one is being renovated and the other is being turned into a totally new concept.

The first landmark being renovated is the Waimea War Memorial Swimming Pool. This well-known landmark was built half a century ago by a team of volunteers led by a Christian pastor. Since then, it has been in need of desperate renovations. The swimming pool is finally receiving a makeover; a makeover to the tune of over a million dollars. The renovations include new pipes, new pool tiling, and a new pool deck. The renovations will be finished by the beginning of next year.

In a Kauai County press release, Mayor Bryan Baptiste said that "[w]ork on the Waimea swimming pool was deferred for many years. I'm pleased that the renovation on this landmark facility has begun, and soon Westside residents will again be able to enjoy one of their favorite places."

The second island landmark that is going under a dramatic change is the old Koloa Courthouse, located at 3461 Weliweli Road. Koloa, HI 96756. This month, it is being changed into a youth centre to provide the community a new meeting place and give Koloa kids a safe place to congregate.
